What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. It is not a program. It cannot run on its own, and it cannot open, read or copy other files on your phone, tablet or computer. What it can do is let the site recognise your browser the next time you visit, so that a choice you already made is still there when you come back.
What they remember
- Your language choice, so the pages you open stay in the language you picked.
- Form entries you have already typed, so a half-finished enquiry is not wiped by an accidental refresh.
- Whether you have already seen a notice on the site, so it is not shown to you again on every page.
Cookies are read by the site that set them, and by your browser. They do not give us access to anything else stored on your device.
Types of cookies we use
The site keeps this list short on purpose. Two kinds of cookie are in play, and one kind is deliberately absent.
-
Strictly necessary
These make the site work. They hold form state while you type, keep the page secure during a session, and remember that a notice has already been dismissed. Blocking them will break parts of the contact form.
-
Analytics
These tell us which pages people actually read and how they arrived here, usually in aggregate. They help us decide which parts of the catering information need to be clearer. We do not use them to build a profile of you.
-
Not used here
Advertising and cross-site tracking cookies are not set by this site. We do not follow your browsing across other websites.
Third-party cookies
A few cookies on this site are set by services we rely on to run it, not by us directly. Those providers set their own rules for what they store and for how long, and their privacy and cookie documents govern that data.
We choose providers we can name and point you to, but we cannot change what they set on their side. If a third-party cookie is a concern for you, the practical step is to read that provider's own policy and then decide whether to keep or block it in your browser.
Hosting
Keeps the site online, serves the pages you request, and may record basic technical information about the request so the site stays available and secure.
Analytics
Measures which pages are visited and how visitors reach the site, so we can tell whether the catering and menu information is being found.
Embedded media
If a page carries a video or an embedded player, that service may set its own cookie when the player loads. The page will not start anything playing on its own.
Names, retention periods and opt-out routes live in each provider's own policy rather than here, because they change on the provider's schedule, not ours. A current list is available on request using the contact details at the end of this page.
How long cookies stay
Two lifetimes cover everything this site sets. Which one applies depends on what the cookie is for, not on the page you happen to be reading.
- Session cookies
- Deleted the moment you close the browser window. These carry you through a single visit, holding form state and keeping the session secure. Nothing survives to your next visit.
- Persistent cookies
- Stay on your device for a set period, or until you delete them yourself. Analytics cookies normally belong in this group and tend to live longer than session cookies, because a measurement only becomes useful once it covers more than one visit.
You do not have to wait for a cookie to expire. Clearing your browser data removes persistent cookies immediately, and the site will simply set new ones on your next visit if the same features are still in use.
Managing cookies
Every mainstream browser gives you three levers over cookies. Where they sit in the menu varies by browser and by version, so the wording below describes what to look for rather than an exact path.
- Block
- Refuse cookies entirely, or refuse only third-party cookies. Site features that depend on them will stop working.
- Delete
- Clear cookies already stored on your device. This removes persistent cookies straight away, without waiting for their expiry date.
- Alert
- Have the browser ask you each time a site wants to set a cookie, so you decide case by case.
The one place blocking cookies really shows is the contact form. If strictly necessary cookies are refused, the form may not keep what you have typed between steps, and you could lose a long message. If that happens, the reliable fallback is to send your enquiry by phone instead.
Do Not Track signals
Does this site respond to a Do Not Track signal?
Not differently, no. Some browsers send a Do Not Track signal when you load a page, but there is still no common standard for how a website should answer it, so signals of that kind are not acted on here. Managing tracking through your own browser settings gives you a clearer result than relying on the signal.
Do I lose anything if I block cookies on this site?
You can still read every page, including the menu, event services and this policy. What changes is convenience: the site may forget a language choice or a partly typed enquiry. Nothing about how we answer a catering request depends on cookies, so blocking them will not stop you reaching us.
Where can I see what has already been stored?
Your browser's own settings list the cookies a site has stored, usually with the site address, the purpose and the expiry date beside each entry. That list is the most accurate record you can check, because it reflects what is on your device right now rather than what any policy says should be there.
Updates to this policy
We revise this policy whenever our use of cookies changes, and the review date at the top of the page always reflects the current version. If a future change adds a new category of cookie, the list above will be updated before that cookie is set, not after. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy; if you disagree with a change, your browser settings are the control you keep either way.
